Welcome to the twisted mind of the Lord Snow

Went to see Evanescence in concert at the Molson Amphitheater...my very first concert!!

Evanescence

It's almost been a month and a half now since David showed up at my door one day, telling me and my sister that we would be busy on July 18th. After some questioning, he told us that we would be busy on said day because he had gotten us tickets to the Evanescence concert which would be in town on that day.

Yesterday was the day at last. We started out in the morning at Town center to watch I-Robot XD I dunno what's with me and this guy and movies but neither of us can get enough of them and I-Robot was a pretty good movie. Hooked up with some of the people coming with us, a few of his friends and had lunch/dinner at Jack Astor's. Went home, picked up my sister and away we went, bussing downtown to a place that none of us had gone before. There were small concerns that we might be going the wrong way...but a single glance around the streetcar killed those doubts. Looking around, whole bunch of girls dressed in black, fishnet, black makeup, etc, etc.

I must take the time now to say that there was a HUGE downside to this concert outing. It brings out a lot of freaks and weirdos. And no, I dont mean people who dress in a gothic style, that I don't find too strange...well, not anymore strange than those teeny weeny white boys who think they're dangerous gangsters cause they listen to hardcore rap and dress accordingly in pants that are 5-6 times too big for them and those gay little stocking thingys on their heads. I have absolutely no problem with people who dress in black and fishnet and chains. It's when you see a whole bunch of white chicks that are hugely overweight trying to dress in those same clothes that the disgust kicks in and the problem begins. For instance...there's a shirt that looks decent and kind of sexy on girls of normal weight. It has a front...but the back is made up of crisscrossing straps that you tie together in the middle you know? Now picture a fat chick wearing it...and don't just make her slightly chubby...that would be Amy Lee...I like the fact that she's not stick thin. But for our little exercise, make her grossly overweight...enough so that her flesh is like...bulging out from between the straps. Kinda like the way playdough looks if you squeeze it in your fist. I know you're cringing right now but bear with me...we're almost done. You have this grossly fat woman wearing something like that...add in a white tutu with gold sparkles on it...then multiply that by 10 or 20 other fat people and you'll get some measure of the disgust I felt XD

So OTHER than the aforementioned nasty parts...the night was pretty damned good. First performance was by "Breaking Benjamin" who was pretty damned good. I'm gonna hunt them up on Suprnova and Isohunt after I finish this to see if they sound as good on album as they do live. Next was Seether and I've got to say...other than the song "Broken" which featured Amy Lee (first time she was on stage that night), they kind of sucked. They almost put me to sleep and the main singer's hair was so long and all over his face that I got the impression that Cousin It from the Addam's family was singing on stage XD. After that was 3 Days Grace which I never really listened to but they were pretty good performers. They really played to the crowd and knew exactly how to hype up the audience. Their performance of their song "Everything About You" was absolutely kickass. They were the first band of the night to get most of the audience up out of their seats XD.

Then Amy Lee!! XD She popped on stage and suddenly everyone was up and the cheering got ridiculously loud XD She was wearing a black tank top, knee high, black leather boots, weird, zebra striped elbow length gloves that left the majority of her hands bare and...a frilly ankle length white skirt XD She was a study in contradiction ^.^

The music started and I swear...I was highly entertained just watching this girl on stage XD She looked like a crazy person just out of an asylum dancing and singing. One moment she'd be standing, singing, pumping her fist into the air in time to the music, then she'd stalk across to the other side of the stage and 'wilt' as she sang, bending closer to the folks in the mosh pit and bam! Up again, hopping, skipping, stalking, jumping, arms, up, down, waving, pumping, risen over her head as she slowly twirled or out at her sides while she did the same. For the first time...she was more than just a voice over a speaker and it was absolutely fascinating XD We were seated right at the center at the 200 level...RIGHT next to the guys who did the mixing. They were damned good seats XD There were maybe 13-14 rows of seats and the mosh pit between us and the stage. I swear it was so fun to watch this girl on stage. Her voice...damn. I got goosebumps at certain parts of "Bring Me to Life" I swear to you XD.

A few bad things...a lot of the times, the hard music drowned her out a bit. I could hear her voice but couldn't make out what she was saying. The stage lights had a habit of revolving to look straight out at the audience at the fourth beat of like 3-4 of their songs, which blinded me pretty badly. And damn, this girl gets TIRED. You could hear that she was getting kinda tired by the second song and she sounded seriously fucking exhausted by the end. She could keep up her singing voice the whole time...but you could hear it when she stopped to talk or paused to take a breath. Sounded like she was gasping. And through all of this, she still kept everything up, the singing, and all of the interesting gyrations that made her fun to watch. There were a couple new songs that I'd never heard before and all in all, the night kicked ass.

Afterwards, they all wanted to go to get drinks so we waaaalkeed down to some place that they vaguely remembered going to before XD Somewhere called E-Zone? It was like a bubble tea place/hair salon XD Nice drinks though. I had some green apple slushy kinda thing that really hit the spot after that bitch of a walk.

Luckily, managed to catch the very last train down to Kennedy station and the last Danforth bus home. It was a bit of a walk but me, David and my sis got in just after 2, and suddenly weren't tired anymore. So we heated up some food and ate that while watching X-Men again XD. Slept at 5...neighbours woke me up a few hours later :P

And here I sit, tired but not sleepy writing all this down.

It was a fun night ^.^
