I hate hospitals... So anyways, I eventually manage to get past that bastard rapist demon thing in the apartments, taking a few tries to learn that I don't have to DO anything except wait for a few minutes before he wanders off on his own. So where does that leave me? I leave the apartments. Oh, almost forgot to mention that I met some of the few of the town's remaining survivors; a little bitch of a girl that stepped on my hand and ran away, a suicidal woman, and a fatass whiteboy who keeps claiming that he didn't kill the person in the kitchen in between bouts of...very realistic sounding vomiting :P But anyways, moving on... So I finally get out of that blasted apartment and back onto the fog encrusted streets...nothing TOO bad, and through various wrong turns and lots of running, finally manage to get my ass to that park from long time ago. There I meet 'Maria', a woman that apparently looks remarkably like James' dead wife, Mary. Surprised? Not too much...but anyways, Maria decides to tag along and now we're gleefully on our way to the Lakeside Hotel in search of more answers. After running for about five minutes straight, guess what? The road is blocked >.< AGAIN, ARGH!!! DAMNIT...but tis all good. At the end of the road, is the body of a man with a note indicating that I should get my ass over to the bowling alley a few minutes back. So I do that. Maria waits outside and inside, I see Eddy talking with Laura and the little girl happens to mention that she's going to go see 'Mary'. o.o However, before I can barge in and ask questions, she runs off and that fatass LETS her just go while sitting there eating pizza. Geez...monsters roaming around and that moron just lets her run off...so I go outside and Maria tells me that she ran off that way. Chasing after Laura eventually leads me to a hospital...now I have nothing against hospitals...but it's now my FIRM opinion that they should stay OUT of survival/horror games. That hospital was okay I guess, not TOO dark and I had Maria there to keep me company right? WRONG. For one thing, there's a new monster, some sort of demon nurse wielding a steel pipe of some sort...I can already see the rape scene that'll MOST LIKELY come up -.- and for another thing, friggin Maria, gets in the way of the monsters attacks, gets hit and dies sending me to the game over screen...highly annoying. Other than that, wandering around wasn't TOO bad, no blood on the walls, no corpses and after a short while, found a place for Maria to stay and rest freeing me from protecting her during battles, hooray. So anyways, wander around, unlocking doors, finding keys, make my way onto the roof for my next big scare... You see, by now, I'd grown rather accustomed to the fact that if the radio made no noise, there was no monster nearby no matter how many strange noises faded in and out. After the event on the roof, I realized that the whole radio making noise rule DID NOT apply to Pyramid Head...wandering around the roof, I found a diary, and checked a door that turned out to be locked when I heard a...a...screechy noise, like metal sliding against metal. My radio didn't make a peep so unworried, I turned to leave...to find that sneaky pyramid-headed bastard standing RIGHT behind me with his friggin meat cleaver raised ready to strike! Of course, it just HAD to be a scene so instead of the normally, limited camera, the tv zooms upwards as it pans to him raising his giant knife and then SMACK, he hits me with it. You'll notice I didn't say 'slice' and that's because he DIDN'T slice me, he HIT me...with the flat of the blade, knocking me flying off the roof. After my heart calmed down, I moved through the new area, picking up clues and keys and eventually made my way back to the orignal hospital area. Dropping into the room where I left Maria, I notice that she's gone missing...strange. but anyways, I'm sure she'll turn up eventually. Moving on, unlocking doors, getting keys. Finally, I once again run into Laura who's playing with a teddy bear. Asking her what she knows about Mary, James inadvertantly lets his emotions get the better of him and says, 'You're LYING you little brat!' Heh heh, not the best way to get information wouldn't you say? But anyways, leading her out of the hospital, she forces me to stop, telling me that she has a letter from Mary hidden in one of the rooms. I walk into it and that little snotty bitch TRAPS me in there with a whole shitload of new monsters that look like demons wrapped in beds hanging from the ceiling. Obviously, she doesn't open the door so I kick some demon ass and the world changes...Silent Hill gets darker... ... IS THAT EVEN POSSIBLE?? O.o There is more blood on the walls, lotta the doors are covered...but good news? I find Maria again and in a touching scene where I manage to piss her off by mistaking her for my dead wife, we are reunited and we continue around the now sinister looking hospital. Moving on, more unlocking of doors, collecting of keys and eventually, I find myself with Maria in the basement of the hospital standing at the beginning of a loooong looking hallway. Maria cries out from behind me, meaning that she's been hit by a monster so with my trusty wooden plank, I turn with the flashlight, ready to beat the living (or UN-living) shit out of whatever is attacking her. You would think that I'd have learned by now...I mean after HOW many encounters now? You'd think that I'd learn to pay attention to my radio....I mean, the fact that it wasn't making a sound AND Maria gets attacked while so close to me should've been more than enough hints for me to get my ass in gear. I turned and once again found myself staring into the...pyramid of Pyramid Head. Feel free to gibber now. While I stood there thinking to myself that this was NOT happening, he takes another casual swipe at Maria and finally, I get the hint. I start jetting down the hall, bouncing off corners running like hell while that giant piece of shit chases after us, taking the occasional swipe at Maria whenever I slow down. Finally, the end is in sight, the doors to an elevator. Charging in, a scene takes over... The doors start to close before Maria gets in, her outstretched hand manages to squeeze between the doors as she desperately calls my name in fear. Calling her name right back, I try to shove open the doors but they won't budge then suddenly, the camera jets up through the crack of the slightly open door to Pyramid Head and his arm, raised above his head. For the first time, I see that it isn't a knife this time but some kind of small spear and THUD. Maria's cries trail off and her hand goes limp. her hand slips from the door and I sit down in that empty elevator to cry... When the elevator comes to a stop, I pull myself together and exit, the first floor of the hospital...on the way through rooms, I notice that little bitch Laura walking past a window and resolutely decide to follow and so, I exit the hospital to find that the endless grey of the fog has been replaced...replaced with a pitch black that is just BARELY held at bay by the tiny flashlight... Alone now in a darker Silent Hill, I vow to myself that finding Mary is the only hope that I have left...that's when I turn off the game...enough for one day... Prisons are worse... |
